First Fetching and Mini Fetching

Hi everyone,
This is my first post in the KAL. I've already made a few pair of fetching- these are first and second pairs I made.



The larger pair are knitted using the normal fetching pattern and DB Cashmerino Aran. The smaller pink ones were knitted with DB Cashmerino DK on 2.5mm needles. They are 11cm long and fit a 5 year old child.
I really like this pattern, it's nice and quick but interesting too.



This was my first time knitting cables- it wasn't as bad as I thought, in fact I quite enjoyed it. Seems like a good pattern to try out cables on.
I'm thinking about trying to make a matching hat. Has anyone else done this?

Newbie`s first post

Hello all!

I`m a Finnish novice knitter. I`m excited to join this KAL and share my love for the pattern since I haven`t found that many Fetching enthusiasts among Finnish bloggers.

Here`s the first pair I`ve knit, modeled by my Mum:



Unfortunately my LYS doesn`t sell Debbie Bliss yarns, but I found some nice Rowan yarn instead: RY Cashmerino Aran (it`s 57% extra fine merino, 33% microfibre and 10% cashmere). I love the feel of the yarn, it`s real soft, and I also love the colour (it`s called 'bud'). (Unfortunately it`s a tad too expensive for a student to buy in large quantities.)

What I really like about the pattern is that it`s easy and quick to knit, but the result is so nice! This was my first time ever knitting cables, but definitely not the last. Somehow the thought of an extra needle (I heard about knitting cables WITHOUT an extra needle only last week) made it sound really difficult, though it turned out to be relatively easy. I`d really like to make a cabled scarf next.





I`m not done with Fetching yet: my friend saw my mitts and hinted she`d like a pair for Christmas - which is great, since I was going to knit her some anyway. And I think I need a second pair for myself...

Finished Beachcombers

I have been waiting to post the finished picture since I thought I'd somehow find time to go down to the beach and take the pictures, but alas, that is not to be. I am quite happy with the result, although the thumbs came out weird, I'll see if I fix it sometime or just let it be. It's not visible in this pic.

Just need to find a store that sells the recommended Debbie Bliss yarn for the four I'm planning as yule gifts. I like to experiment, but I usually don't with gifts, besides, I seem to have run out of "odd balls" in my stash. What a stashbuster this pattern is!

Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed

This pair of Fetching is brought to you courtesy of Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed, a luxurious blend of wool, cashmere and silk. Luckily I happen to have a ton of this stuff in my stash, and I can eek a pair out of just one ball. I am loving this pattern and am planning on making this my default Christmas gift for guys and dolls alike...

Hullo!

I'm a new member to this KAL.

I'm hoping to find some time to knit up Fetching in between a number of other projects. Have always wanted fingerless gloves!

Plus I already have a ball of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in baby pink left over from a cardigan a while back and was going to knit a baby's cap for pregnant friends but they kept having boys....

Oh well, their loss, my gain! See ya.

The directions were right...

I did indeed get the yarn after work on Friday (ok, out of my stash, but still!) and these little beauties are ready to go for tomorrow's commute! I used some Classic Elite Lush #4415 that I got on remainder last spring at Purl and that I'd completely forgotten about. I really enjoyed this pattern a lot, although the thumb was slightly tricky. I somehow need to figure out how to do this better on the next pair. On the left hand I stupidly did a knit cast on: You'll notice that it's curling at the bottom,hopefully blocking will take care of that. I did the recommended cable cast on (which happens to be my favorite cast on anyway) on the right hand and you can see what a nice edge it gives. Live and learn to read the directions more closely is the take home message! I love this pattern and can't wait to try it in the recommended yarn.

"Beachcomber" Fetching

After unravelling back and forth and using up more yarn than I expected for my fish scarf, I decided not to make these gloves only in the nature brown cashmere yarn, but found this old Cotton Sport yarn in a bag and decided to use it for the cable parts of the gloves - inspired by Dawn's earlier Fetchings in two colours. So far, I really like the visual effect of the two yarns' different thickness and feel, it reminded me of autumn sea waves lapping at a soft, sandy beach (hence the title). Added 5 more stitches to these and some extra rounds on the "body" of the glove. Will post another finished picture when they're done!

problem

So, I had no problems with the first one - however, everytime I start the second one something is wrong. First I cast on way tooooo looooose, then way tooo tight, and I thought I had it right the third time until noticed that somehow I had a quarter inch of gap right in the beginning where I had joined to work in the round!!! I am so frustrated because the first one seemed so much easier!!! I suppose I will cast on for the second one tonight or tomorrow and see how it goes.

Here is the complete pair. I like how they came out. I wanted to try something different with the fetching pattern and I think I've found it since you can do all kinds of striping. I had originally intended to only stripe the cuffs but when my fiance saw what I was doing, I asked him if he wanted more stripes and he said yes so there they are. :) The next pair I am going to start are for my sister. She didn't pick out debbie bliss yarn so I'm going to see how this pattern holds up with other yarn. Wish me luck! :) Thanks for all the comments too!

half of a pair

Well, here's one of them and the other one is about halfway completed. I'm hoping to finish the pair before I go out of town. I was experimenting with striping. I think for the next pair I make, I'm going to do some more striping. They're kinda fun.

Fetching on the small side

So I was up until here last night, and all looked well and neat:



It looked short, so I tried it on:



To me, this is a little too stretched and short. So it looks as though I'll unravel it and start again (not a problem, as this is such a quick knit, I decided not to knit a swatch since the first glove could easily fill this function). The question is though, should I add five more stitches or should I go up a needle size? What do you think? The yarn is a 4-ply cashmere.

I forgot to accept the invitation to join a while back. I finished these gloves about two weeks ago.






















Yarn: Cascade Pima Tencel
Needles: 5" Brittany Birch DPNs
Notes: They are a little bit big for me so I'm going to make a second pair casting on 40 stitches instead of 45.

This is my first knit along, but my second pair of Fetching. My first ones looked like this:



Knitted with two strands of mohair, they're a bit bulky but I like the dramatic look of them.

Now, I've cast on for my second pair in a 100% cashmere yarn from Christel Seyfarth. The colour is "nature brown", and the stitch definition (well, at least in comparison to the mohair) is superb. So far, I've knitted the first three cable turns on the right glove and it looks a wee bit small, but here's hoping it'll turn out alright...

casted on for second pair!

Hello all,

I have yet to take a pic yet of what little I've done but I casted on a few days ago for a second pair of fetching, this one for my fiance. I'll try to post a pic soon. I'm experimenting with striping too. So we'll see how it turns out.
